Britannia Washing Systems Keep National Express Fleet Pristine

Smith Brothers & Webb has installed one of its most advanced automated washing systems, the Britannia Streamline, at National Express Group’s Pensnett Depot in Kingswinford, West Midlands.

With 110 vehicles operating seven days a week out of the depot, it is a top priority and a challenge to keep them clean and in the pristine condition befitting such a high profile brand as National Express.

That is why the leading transport provider turned to the Britannia Streamline, which can clean up to 80 buses an hour, and is renowned for its reliability, longevity and unsurpassed wash quality.

With a 70-year pedigree of engineering excellence, Smith Brothers & Webb makes all of its automated washing systems for buses, coaches, trains, trams, commercial and public service vehicles in the UK.

Mick Mullins, Head of Property UK Bus & Coach for National Express said: “We have tried other companies over the years but have always returned to Smith Brothers & Webb because we know they will not let us down. Reliability is crucial.

“With our vehicles out on the road seven days a week running to busy schedules turnaround times are very tight so it is imperative that we have a washing system that we can depend upon to keep our vehicles clean.

“Smith Brothers & Webb offers a full maintenance package with its own engineers so in the event of a problem arising there is as little disruption and downtime as possible.

“Their engineers can give us immediate attention and they have immediate access to the parts. It is an ideal partnership.”

Andy Barracliffe, Director of Smith Brothers & Webb, said: “It is a testament to the engineering quality of the Britannia range of washing systems that National Express has once again chosen it for a busy depot.

“The previous Britannia model that was used at Pensnett has lasted for 30 years and I am sure the Britannia Streamline recently installed will give them many good years of service to come.

“Image is important for many fleets – not just National Express – and Britannia certainly helps them to maintain a professional appearance.”

Designed and manufactured in Alcester, Warwickshire, the Streamline is one of the most sophisticated in Smith Brothers & Webb’s product portfolio. A four-brush drive through, it is capable of washing all sizes of vehicles and can cope with volumes of up to 80 an hour. It is easy to install and maintain.
