Konectbus Wheels In Britannia Washing Systems to Keep Its Fleet Clean

Konectbus will be keeping its vehicles in pristine condition with the help of a new Britannia automated wash system when it kicks off the new Park & Ride service in Norwich this September.

Manufactured by Smith Brothers & Webb, the new machine will be situated at the Konectbus depot in Dereham, and follows the company’s recent announcement that it has won a five year contract from Norfolk County Council to operate all six Park & Ride services in Norwich.

Up to 64 buses, 18 of which are new, will be serving the six routes on a daily basis six days a week and all will require cleaning each night ready to go back on the road the following morning.

Reliability, robustness and excellent wash quality are important to Konectbus which prides itself on having one of the highest customer satisfaction scores in the UK (96%) in the independent Transport Focus national bus passengers’ survey.  The company recognises that passenger experience and comfort is key and the cleanliness of its vehicles is integral to this.

Konectbus has chosen the highly engineered Britannia Strong 45 three brush gantry machine which comes in a variety of sizes and offers both ‘drive-in /drive-out’ and drive-in /reverse-out’ operations to meet each fleets requirements.

A microprocessor control system automatically controls brushes to give a gentle but thorough wash and the horizontal brush control incorporates artic jump, back off, back on and draw bar trailer functions.

Konectbus has also installed a full reclaim unit, which recycles the water vastly reducing consumption in line with the company’s environmental policy.
Gavin Hunter, Managing Director, Konectbus says the new machines will make light work of the washing.
He commented:  “We used to clean all our vehicles in Dereham by which was manageable.  However with these new Park & Ride services our fleet size increasing and the turnaround times are decreasing, so it is essential we have the best equipment to keep the fleet running as efficiently as possible.”

He added:  “Furthermore the fact that Smith Brothers and Webb provides a full maintenance service provides total peace of mind.
“As a leading provider of passenger transport in the UK it is essential that we work with companies that deliver a quality product and provide an after-sales service which enables us to provide the level of service for which we are renowned.”

The Britannia brand of automated washing systems was launched 70 years ago for trains and today has a worldwide reputation for reliability, engineering excellence and unsurpassed wash quality.
