Ipswich Buses is ensuring its distinctive purple and green fleet is kept in pristine condition with the installation of a state of the art Britannia Washing system.
The 85 strong fleet is a regular sight in and around streets of Ipswich and keeping its buses clean is obviously a top priority for the bus company whose history dates back to 1903.
Whilst the company has always had a bus wash, the time had come for a change.  With the priority being reliability and a system robust enough to manage the nightly throughput of 70 buses, Smith Brothers & Webb, UK manufacturer of the world renowned Britannia Washing Systems was the obvious choice.
Further a strong recommendation from fellow bus company trentbarton buses in Derbyshire, coupled with a reputation for excellent wash quality, convinced Ipswich business that Smith Brothers & Webb were the right provider to meet their stringent requirements.
The system, which is now fully operational, comprises a Britannia Strong Spray, RO Water Softener together with full reclaim and civil works.
Jeremy Cooper, Managing Director of Ipswich Buses commented:  “We knew that when selecting a new wash we faced a number of challenges.
“Not only did we want to ensure that the wash could provide the speed of turnaround required but one which could effectively operate within our restricted yard space.
“The Strong Spray provided the single pass wash facility we required, coupled with the reassurance that the service back-up and manufacturing of parts is based in the UK.
“We have been delighted with the results.  All buses in the pm peak run back are washed every night between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. without fail.  We are proud of our business and our heritage and we want our customers to enjoy their journeys in a comfortable and clean environment. “
The bus company has also opted for the peace of mind of a standard service contract from Smith Brothers & Webb which will be undertaken by experienced engineers.
Andy Barracliffe, Director of Britannia Washing Systems, said: “Ipswich Buses has a long and established history in the town and we are delighted to be helping them keep their fleet clean whilst at the same time maintaining their distinctive image on the road.
“We look forward to working with them for years to come.”
